The Rebalance Focus Action Group of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer is planning a series of one-day workshops on Cancer Patient Navigation. The purpose of these workshops is to build a collaborative Canadian approach to planning an accelerated adaptation for navigation systems for cancer patients/survivors and their families.
Cancer has a major impact on a person's life--physically, psychologically, emotionally, financially, spiritually and socially and the cancer journey is complex and challenging. Navigating this multifaceted system is difficult for patients particularly while having to make huge decisions regarding treatment and care.
Cancer Patient Navigator programs have emerged as a specific strategy that has proven to increase access to cancer care and improve the coordination and continuity of care for patient and families. Two successful models of navigation have been implemented in Québec and in Nova Scotia. Based on the experience in Québec and Nova Scotia, the workshops will present a planning framework for development of a cancer patient navigation program, as well as offer a forum for sharing experiences and information about developments and research in navigation across Canada.
These three workshops have been developed particularly for those interested in understanding more about navigation and in implementing a program within their own jurisdiction. Registrations are complimentary for Canadians and the workshops will take place in the following three cities:
Winnipeg - December 7, 2007
Fredericton - January 18, 2008
Edmonton - February 12, 2008
